When You Don’t Know What to Do: Supporting Dementia Caregivers in Your Community.

When someone you know is caring for a loved one with dementia in your community or church, most people want to help—but feel like they don’t know what to do or say. Too often, good intentions give way to fear, discomfort, silence, or distance—leaving care partners feeling even more isolated and alone, just when they need support the most.
This workshop will provide an overview of dementia and the “long goodbye” care partners often experience. It will move beyond awareness into action. Participants will learn encouraging things to say (and what not to say) to care partners, how to listen without fixing, how to offer help that is truly helpful, and how to show up for caregivers in their lives with compassion instead of avoidance, fear, or judgment.
You do not need perfect words or special training to support someone in their hardest season—only an open heart, a listening ear, and the willingness to take the first step—and stay.
